Do you have bright ideas? Ideas for inventions that change society or, at least, make life

easier for somebody? Perhaps we all do sometimes, but we don't often make the ideas into realities. Recently, in Britain, there was a competition called British Designers for Tomorrow. The competition encouraged young people to carry out their bright ideas. There were two groups in the contest; Group Two was for schoolchildren over 16. And there were eleven prize-winners altogether.

Neil Hunt, one of the prize-winners, was called "Sunshine Superman(超人)." It's important when people study the weather to be able to record sunshine accurately. We need to know how many hours of sunshine we have and how strong it is. Most sunshine recorders only record direct sunlight. Neil's is more accurate and this is very important for research into the way of using solar power. You can do so much with animated cartoon. Look at Simon West's for animated road signs. He uses pictures which appear as you go nearer or farther from them. This isn't new idea, But it is new to use these pictures on road signs. "We found that people were more likely to see moving signs." said Simon. So now, you can really see rocks falling, trains moving, horses running or a car falling over the edge of a cliff(悬崖). Quite a warning!

The ideas in the competition were so inventive that we are surprised that British doesn't ask more schoolchildren for suggestions. Perhaps this will be the start of "pupil power"!

The writer holds the view that people seldom

A.have bright ideas

B.turn their bright ideas into realities

C.make their life easier

D.think of inventing something

W: What do you need to know? I think it's a really great system.

M: First of all, where does it go?

W: The university shuttle bus goes all over campus. It does not leave the campus; if you want to travel off-campus, you'll need to take the city bus. But the university shuttle bus will get you from one class to the next, very efficiently.

M: And how much does it cost?

W: It's free, can you believe it? So you don't have to pay a cent to get all around the university campus.

M: That's really great. And how do I catch the shuttle bus?

W: Just look for one of the bright yellow shuttle bus signs, and go stand next to it. You can see the shuttle bus signs all over campus. A shuttle bus will come along approximately every five minutes, so you shouldn't have to wait long.

听力原文:Interviewer: How many different countries do you think you have been to?

Man: Once I made a count of how many countries I'd hitchhiked through and it came to twenty eight. So if you add on a few more for those where I haven't hitched, I imagine it comes to about forty by now.

Interviewer: About forty! And are there any of these that you feel you really would like to go back to?

Man: Two that I could actually live in I think. One would be the west coast of Canada because I think that had everything to offer. It was rich culturally, it was very bright, it had a very pleasant climate, slightly improved on Britain. It had the Rocky Mountains behind, loads of coastline, um, a lot going an both day and night, a large university and it was just near America if you felt like crossing the border. The other place I liked, but more for a holiday, was Sardinia, which I found was one of the quietest, most unspoiled parts of Europe that I have seen.

What is the possible relationship between the two speakers?

A.They are husband and wife

B.They are teacher and student

C.They are interviewer and interviewee

D.They are father and daughter

听力原文:F: Jacky, do you want to become a millionaire in the future?

M: Why? Of course. But you know, I worry about my grades very much. I think it's the students who get straight A's or maybe it's the children born into wealthy families with brilliant connections who will probably have the chance.

F: Then here's some good news for you. A Thomas J. Stanley surveyed 1,300 millionaires before he wrote his new book, The Millionaire Mind. The guy said the average millionaires made B's and C's in college. Their average score was not good enough to get into many top-notch schools.

M: You mean most millionaires are not intellectually gifted, not smart enough to succeed?

F: Yes. There is no correlation between grade point averages and economic achievement, none. There are some very bright people in the data, but not many.

M: If it doesn't rely on natural genius, what makes a millionaire then?

F: Millionaires choose careers that match their abilities. They may not have great analytic intelligence, but they are creative and practical. They focus on a goal, take calculated risks and then work harder than most people.

M: It's a lesson I should take to heart.

How many millionaires have Stanley surveyed before he wrote his book?

A.1,100.

B.1,300.

C.3,000.

D.3,100.

听力原文:M: Next month you're going to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. When is it? I often get
confused about it.

W: It is supposed to be the fourth Thursday of November.

M: So, let's see ... it will be November 23 this year. What are you going to do that day?

W: I will be home with my family, of course.

M: To thank God for a good harvest like the earlier settlers did centuries ago?

W: Oh, that's history. True, every year we still tell our school kids the story of that famous Pilgrim feast. but for most of us, it's just time for family reunions.

M: You usually eat roast turkey and potatoes for dinner. That's what I've read.

W: Yes, and a lot of other things. It's always a huge meal. That's the tradition we still keep after so many years.

M: Sounds like our Mid-Autumn Festival. In the evening, the whole family gathers together to enjoy the bright moon while eating mooncakes.

W: Do you celebrate Christmas in China?

M: No, we don't. We have our own Chinese New Year. We call it Spring Festival. How do you celebrate Christmas?

W: Besides Christmas dinner, we attend Church service and sing Christmas carols. Children hang their stockings near their beds or in the living room so that Santa Claus can fill them with candy and toys.

M: I know you have many other holidays.

W: Yes, we have Lincoln's birthday, Valentine's Day, Easter Sunday, April Fool's Day, but let's call it quits for now. The dancing party must have already begun. We have to rush.

(23)

A.What is so-called Thanksgiving Day.

B.How to celebrate Thanksgiving Day.

C.The exact time of Thanksgiving Day.

D.The history of Thanksgiving Day.
