听力原文: For new-born babies, their brain activity undergoes many changes in the first two years after they are born. At birth, the babies have only the most elementary emotional life. Newborns show an expression of disgust, for instance, in response to strong tastes, and show surprise in reaction to a new environment. They also show interest to shining and beautiful things they have never seen.

By ten months, they begin to display a full array of basic emotions: joy, anger, sadness, disgust, surprise and fear. The basic emotions during the first two years seem to be programmed by a biological clock within their bodies. When the infants' brain comes to a mature time, they will gradually possess various emotions which are more complex than ever before.

A study of brain activity in ten-month-old babies shows that their right frontal part of their brain is quite active during positive emotions and the left part during negative emotions.

听力原文: I'm sure you realize that your research papers are due in six weeks. I've looked at your proposed topics and made comments about them. The most frequent problem was proposing too broad a topic-remember, this is only a fifteen-page paper.

As I return your topic papers, I'd like to look over the schedule which sketches out what we'll do during the next two weeks. Today is Monday; by Friday, I want your preliminary outlines. Please be sure to incorporate the suggestions I've made on your topics in your outlines. Next week I'll have a conference with each of you. I've posted a schedule on my office door'-sign your name to indicate the time you're available for an appointment. In the conference, we'll discuss your preliminary outline. Then you can make the necessary revisions and hand in your final outline, which is due two weeks from today.

Use the outline style. in your textbook and remember it should be no more than two pages long. Be sure to begin with a thesis statement-that is, with a precise statement of the point you intend to prove-and include a conclusion.

Have you got all that? Your two-page preliminary outlines are due at the end of this week and the final outlines are due after your conferences. Follow the textbook style. and include a thesis statement and a conclusion.

(27)

A.Immediately.

B.The following week.

C.In two weeks.

D.At the end of the semester.

听力原文: Nearly a third of young people with disabilities have taken at least some postsecondary classes within the first two years after they leave high school. The study finds that disabled students over all are less than half as likely as their peers to have attended college in the two years after high school, but the college-going rate varies greatly by type of disability: students with hearing or visual problems are as likely as nondisabled students to have done some postsecondary work.

The study's underlying purpose is to help gauge the success of federal laws and programs which ensures elementary and secondary schools to prepare disabled people for later life. But along the way, the study provides in-depth data about them.

The study looked at a group of students who were in high school in 2001 and who had finished or left high school two years later.

Of those, 31 percent of disabled students had attended a postsecondary institution since leaving high school. Nearly 20 percent of the students were attending college when the study was conducted, just under half of the proportion of the general population.

The study also finds that 67 percent of students with hearing problems and 69 percent of students with visual problems had attended some college since high school. Only one in five students with emotional disabilities had received some postsecondary education since they left high school.

(27)

A.Within 1 year.

B.Within 2 years.

C.Within 3 years.

D.Within 4 years.

听力原文: Learning a second language is never easy, and, generally speaking, the older one is when one attempts a new language, the more difficult it becomes. This is at least partly due to what is known as language interference, meaning that the linguistic patterns of our first language interfere with those of the second because no two languages have exactly the same sounds and grammatical structures.

All languages have obligatory categories of grammar that may be lacking in other languages. Russian unlike English—has an obligatory category for gender which demands that a noun, and often a pronoun, specify whether it is masculine or feminine.

Likewise, when translating an English story into Chinese in which a character identified as cousin appears, a Chinese translator requires to know whether it refers to a male or a female, whether the character is older or younger than the speaker, and whether the character belongs to the family of the speaker's father of mother. Therefore "biaomei" can be translated into English only by the awkward statement "a female cousin on my mother's side and younger than I".

The Russian/English and Chinese/English examples illustrate the basic problem in any translation No matter how skilled translators, they cannot take the language out of the speech community that uses it. Translation obviously is not a simple two-way street between two languages. Rather, it is a busy intersection among at least two languages with all of their peculiar characteristics, the cultures of the two speech communities, and the speech situation in which the statement was uttered.

(27)

A.Because of their age.

B.Because they have no time.

C.Because they are not knowledgeable.

D.Because of the language interference.

听力原文: The Republican Party is one of the two main political parties of the USA. It was formed in 1854 by groups opposed to slavery. Lincoln became the first Republican president in 1861, and Republicans held the presidency from then until 1913, except for two terms. They returned to power from 1921-1933, but were blamed for the economic crisis of 1929 and the poverty and unemployment that followed. The Party did not win back the presidency until Eisenhower was elected in 1952. The next Republican president was Richard Nixon, elected in 1968. During Nixon's presidency as during most of Eisenhower's, the Republicans failed to win a majority in Congress. The Republican Party tends to be more conservative than the Democratic Party; it is associated with free enterprise in the economy, and is most strongly supported in the rural and suburban areas of the North, the Middle West and the West.

(27)

A.The presidents of the United States.

B.Congress of the USA.

C.The relationship between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

D.The Republican Party.
