听力原文: In some countries video games are fast becoming a social problem. They are prohibited in the Philippines and Indonesia. In Japan, those who are under 15 years old are forbidden to use the public machines at night. City elders across the United States are campaigning to restrict their numbers, while the Hong Kong government is proposing to license their operation. These video games are causing children to waste their money on them. Even adults are tempted to spend working hours playing them.

In Singapore, the battle of man against the machines takes place in licensed amusement centers, mostly located in shopping centers. According to one estimate, each establishment can make between $ 250 and $ 1,500 a day. The schoolchildren in uniforms are not allowed into these centers. However, one cannot help noticing that the majority of those who are often found in these places are youngsters. Many of them are schoolchildren who have changed out of their uniforms. Some play for the fun of it; others have turned them into a form. of gambling, and some are hopelessly addicted to them.

Now kids and adults alike play these games in the privacy of their homes. Video game sets have invaded most homes. The question that must be asked is: Have they any educational value?

In which parts of the world are video games forbidden?

A.Philippines and Japan.

B.Indonesia and Hong Kong.

听力原文:W: I'll just read a curious fact. Did you know that people spend less than ten minutes in the drugstore are five times more likely to make a purchase than those who spend half an hour there ?

M: I saw that article too. But I think if someone runs into a drugstore for ten minutes, it's usually to make a specific purchase.

W. And someone who spends more time there may be just looking.

M: Exactly. Haven't you ever gone into a store thinking that you buy something and then talk yourself out of it.

W: Yes, I have, especially when I thought I could get it for less elsewhere or I really didn't

need it after all.

M: Exactly. But if you run into buying something specifically and have very little time, you pick it up, pay for it immediately and then leave.

W: That's true. Maybe we should learn a lesson from that. Take your time and you'll spend less money.

M: I doubt that it will be true in all sources though. You know, in a department store, for instance, you may see a sweater or something you never intended to buy and buy it because you've had time to look around.

What starts the conversation?

A.An advertisement.

B.A sales clerk's comment.

C.A druggist's suggestion.

D.An article.
