听力原文： Americans are suffering from a serious sleep deficit as they spend more time on leisure activities. A world that "never goes to sleep" offers many diverse activities, but encourages unhealthy and sometimes anti-social lifestyles for American adults. Instead of working to live, they are living to work, a shift that has had a profound impact on their personal lives. Adults report spending less time sleeping, engaged in social and leisure activities. Most Americans say they suffer from sleep problems and when they go to sleep, many sleep alone even if they are married. These are some of the key findings in the National Sleep Foundation's 2001 "Sleep in America" poll, which looks at the relationship between Americans' lifestyles, sleep habits and sleep problems. Sleep deprivation continues to be widespread in America. According to the NSF poll, 63% of American adults do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep needed for good health, safety, and optimum performance. In fact, nearly one-third report sleeping less than seven hours each week night, though many adults say they try to sleep more on weekends. The poll shows good news and bad news. The good news is that many Americans say they don't want to give up any more sleep in spite of their hectic lives. And they would sleep more if they were convinced it would contribute to their quality of life. The bad news is far too many adults still sacrifice sleep, which is unhealthy and counter-productive.

The United States Civil Rights Commission reported last autumn that anti-Asian violence is a national problem. Social experts say some Americans are looking for someone to blame for the country's economic problems. These people believe Japan is responsible for the trade imbalance and loss of industrial jobs. So they blame anyone who, to them, looks like Japanese...or simply Asian. This feeling is strongest, experts say, among poorer Americans who are struggling for survival.
Partly because of this problem, Asian-Americans are becoming more politically active. They are speaking out against anti-Asian violence and against policies based on anti-Asian feelings.
Traditionally, Asians have taken little part in politics in the United States. They put their energy into hard work and taking care of their families. Now, a movement for more political power has begun.
Asian-American politicians say the reason is mainly the desire for political representation. They say all Asian-Americans do not share the same political goals, but share a desire to end all forms of racism. These political leaders would like to see more Asian-Americans in political life. California politician Jule Tang believes that Asian-Americans will become a united political force with their own elected officials. Ms. Tang says, "Asians want to be really part of the American system."

听力原文： The rise of multinational companies, global marketing, new communications technologies, and shrinking cultural differences have led to an unparalleled increase in global public relations or PR.
Surprisingly, since modern PR was largely an American invention, the US leadership in PR is being threatened by PR efforts in other countries. Ten years ago, for example, the world's top five public relations agencies were American-owned. In 1991, only one was. The British in particular are becoming more sophisticated and creative. A recent survey found that more than half of all British companies include PR as part of their companies planning activities, compared to about one third of US companies that do so. It may not be long before London replaces New York as the capital of PR.
Why is America lagging behind in the global PR race？ First, Americans as a whole tend to be fairly provincial and take more interest in local affairs. Knowledge of world geography, for example, has never been strong in this country. Secondly, Americans lag behind their European and Asian counterparts in knowing a second language.
Finally, people involved in PR abroad tend to keep a closer eye on international affairs. In the financial area, for instance, most Americans read The Wall Street Journal. Overseas, their counterparts read the Journal as well as the Financial Times of London and The Economist, the latter two being publications not often read in this country.

You are a warrior.
