听力原文: We all know that there have been some major changes in our market over the last
len years, and we can expect further changes over the next ten years. I'd like to present the trends over the last ten years and also anticipate the trends we predict over the next ten years.

I'm not going to take long -- just long enough to give you an overview of developments so that we can discuss the implications. Do interrupt me if you've got any questions or comments. So, let's start by looking at trends over the last ten years. On this first transparency you'll see two pie charts -- the first represents the milk product market ten years ago, the second, how it looks now. There are two outstanding features: firstly, the total market has grown substantially from 280 million litres to 440 million litres; secondly, the actual sector share of the. tour main milk products has changed radically; the full milk sector has fallen dramatically from 74% to just 53% -- here on the pie chart; the skimmed milk sector has rocketed from only 12% to 40% , reflecting the weight of publicity directed towards low fat diets. The other two sectors are long life milk and milk drinks. It's interesting to see that the long life sector has risen from 5% to 13% -- a significant rise considering initial consumer resistance to this type of milk. And finally, the milk drinks have remained pretty stable, just increasing by 1%. So the two big winners of the decade are skimmed milk and long life milk.

Now, what's really important is the likely trends over the next ten years in these four sectors. If you look at this graph you will see the same trends I just outlined for the four sectors. Beyond this line we've plotted the anticipated trends over the next ten years. We forecast that the full milk sector will decline more gradually over the next five years to around 40% and then fall a further 2'% by the end of the 10-year period.

&8226;Look at the notes about the key trends in the milk drinks market.

&8226;Some information is missing.

&8226;You will hear part of a presentation on the subject.

&8226;For each question (16 -22), fill in the missing information in the numbered space using one or two words.

听力原文: The global spread of English over the last 40 years is remarkable. It is unprecedented in several ways: by the increasing number of users of the language; by its depth of penetration into societies; by its range of functions.

Worldwide over 1.4 billion people live in countries where English has official status. One out of five of the world's population speaks English with some degree of competence. Over 70% of the world's scientists read English. About 85% of the world's mail is written in English. By the year 2010, the number of people who speak English as a second or foreign language will outnumber native speakers.

English is used for more purposes than ever before. Vocabularies, grammatical forms, and ways of speaking and writing have shown influence from technological and scientific developments, economics and management, literature and entertainment genres. There is no reason to believe that any other language will appear within the next 50 years to replace English.

English has become an international language. However, this does not mean that English is replacing or will replace other languages as many fear. Instead, it may supplement or co-exist with other languages by allowing strangers to communicate across linguistic boundaries. It will become a tool that opens windows to the world, unlocks doors to opportunities, and expands our minds to new ideas.

A.1.4 billion.

B.One fifth of the world's population.

C.70 percent of the world's population.

40 years ago the idea of disabled people doing sport was never heard of. But when the annu
al games for the disabled were started at Stoke Mandeville, England in 1948 by Sir Ludwig Gutt-mann, the situation began to change. Sir Ludwig Guttmann, who had been driven to England in 1939 from Nazi Germany, had been asked by the British government to set up an injuries centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital near London. His ideas about treating injuries included sport for the disabled. In the first games just two teams of injured soldiers took part. The next year, 1949, five teams took part. From those beginnings, things have developed fast. Teams now come from abroad to Stoke Mandeville every year. In 1960 the first Olympics for the Disabled were held in Rome, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games. Now every four years the Olympic Games for the Disabled are held, if possible, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games, although they are organized separately. In other years Games for the Disabled are still held at Stoke Mandeville. In the 1984 Wheelchair Olympic Games, 1 064 wheelchair athletes from about 40 countries took part. Unfortunately, they were held at Stoke Mandeville and not in Los Angeles, along with the other Olympics. The Games have been a great success in promoting international friendship and understanding, and in proving that being disabled does not mean you cant enjoy sport. One small source of disappointment for those who organize and take part in the games, however, has been the unwill-ingness of the International Olympic Committee to include disabled events at the Olympic Games for the able-bodied. Perhaps a few more years are still needed to convince those fortunate enough not to be disabled that their disabled fellow athletes should not be excluded.

The first games for the disabled were held______after Sir Ludwig Guttmann arrived in England.

B.10 years

C.21 years

D.40 years
