听力原文:Interviewer(I): Good morning, Miss

Miss Jones(J): Miss Jones.

I: Miss Jones, yes, right. Hi, Um now, you'd like to join our team, I gather ...

J: Yes, I would.

I: That's very good. Er I'd like to know a little bit about you. Perhaps you could start if you could tell me a little bit about your education.

J: Oh yes, right. Well, I left school at 18 and for the first two years I went to Gibsons, you might know it, it's an engineering firm. Um and after that, I wanted to do a course, so I did a one-year full-time PA course and went back to Gibsona. I was PA to the Export Director. I stayed there for two years and then moved on to my present company. Um that's Europa Marketing um Mr Adair, the marketing director, offered me a job because Gibson had worked quite a lot with Europa Marketing. And I've been with them for three years now Um first working with the Marketing Director and and now I'm with the Sales Director.

I: That's all very interesting, Miss Jones. Um,.- l'd like to know, what did you enjoy most at school'? What was the course that you enjoyed most?

J: Ah foreign languages I liked best. We did French and German. Yes.

I: Mhm. And are you quite fluent in those now?

J: Yes, a bit rusty now, but um obviously the more travel I can do, the more [ can use my languages and I'd like to learn another language. I'd like to add Italian as well.

I: Italian?

J:Yes.

J: Very good, very good, that might be very useful Now er tell me a little bit about er the work you're doing at present.

J: Um well er Europa Marketing is a marketing and public relations company and they do consultancy work for companies operating in the UK and European markets. Er our clients come from all over the world um we deal with some of them by post, but most of them come to our offices and at least once during a project. I assist the sales director by arranging these visits, setting up meetings and presentations and I deal with her correspondence. I've not been able to go with her on any of her trips abroad, but I've been to firms in this country, several times on my own to make these arrangements.

I: It sounds as if you're very happy there, Miss Jones. I'm curious why you'd tike to leave them and join our company.

J: Well um I know the reputation of Anglo-European and it has a very good reputation. And I feel I would have more scope and opportunity in your company and that the work will be more challenging for me. I might be able to possibly travel and use my languages because at the moment most of my work is rather routine secretarial-type work and I like the idea of more um challenges in my life really.

听力原文: (J = Jenny; V = Victoria)

J: I'm longing to hear about this tour, Victoria. You must be terribly excited.

V: Oh, I am. I ... I've never been to America before, Jenny, so I'm really looking forward to it. I thought of going fly-drive.

J: Fly-drive?

V: Yes. You know, you ... you can arrange for a car to be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive. You book everything this end including the plane tickets.

J: Sounds simple enough. Are you going to, then?

V: Well, I'm bit worried about driving on the other side of the road and having to, so I decided it would be better to go on a more organized holiday.

J. What do you mean by "organized"?

V.. Well, everything is arranged by a tour operator, a more organized trip.

J. What do you mean by "organized"?

V.. Well, everything is arranged by a tour operator. You know, you are taken around and shown where to go and what to do. I would probably miss half the sight otherwise.

J: Mm, where are you going anyway?

V: Orlando. It's in central Florida.

J: Sounds OK. Are you going on your own?

V: Yes, I don't mind that. There will be other people on the tour. I'm sure to make friends. You know, I like meeting new people. Here, let me show you the brochure.

J: It looks pretty packed. Do you really have time to do all these things?

V: Oh, yes. It's all planned. Let's see. Day one, we arrive in Orlando. And after we've settled in our hotel, we have the afternoon free. ! guess we could have a look around and do what we like. Then, day two, we go to Disney World.

J: You mean Mickey Mouse and all that?

V: Yes, it's a kind of gigantic funfair with all the Disney characters and there is also the Epcot Centre, uh, a sort of city of the future with all the latest developments. I've always wanted to go there, anything I saw on television. And then, day three, we go seaworld.

J: Whatever is that?

V: Well, there are aquatic displays and performing dolphins and even a whale.

J: Oh, that's quite unusual. Let's see what you do on day four. Oh, it seems to be free.

V: Yes, that's right. And then on the next day we go to the Kennedy Space Centre. That should be interesting.

J: I wonder how much they let you see. That's where NASA is, isn't it?

V: Well, I shouldn't think you'd be able to see the latest spacecr0ft, but you might be allowed to glimpse some Mission Control, and perhaps how they receive message from satellite. Anyway I bet you'll know a lot more about space than you even know before.

J: Mm, I quite envy you going there. Somehow, I find it quite hard to believe that people will one day live out in space.

V: Oh, I don't. I'll give it a try if I have the chance. Now, what next? Oh, yes, day six. Circus World.

J: Circus World. That sounds fun. I love going to the circus.

V: So do I. It states here, Circus World, see, take parts, enjoy. I wonder what "take parts" involves?

J: You'll soon find out.

V: And day seven, we come home. Just as well, I'll be broke by then.

J: I suppose you've been saving up for ages for this holiday.

V: Well, I did think of putting in some extra hours at work, but the money wasn't really worth it after tax, and it would have meant I didn't get home until late. Dad offered to lend me some money but I know he really needs it himself. In the end, I went to see my bank manager. He was terribly nice, so here I am, all booked up and ready to go.

Victoria has ev

A.fly-drive holiday.

B.car-trip.

C.two-city holiday.

D.conducted tour.

听力原文:J: Bob, I hear you've just come back from Sri Lanka. What's it like?

B: Yes Jane, I've recently returned from a business trip to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is one of my favourite countries. A very beautiful country, with very high mountains, towering jungles, beautiful sandy beaches, and lovely blue seas.

J: Mmmm, sounds like heaven. More business than pleasure was it?

B: Yes unfortunately, more business than pleasure. I was only there a short while and did not get any opportunity to travel outside of Colombo, the capital.

J: Well I'm sorry to hear that, but what sort of business are you actually in?

B: I'm involved in attracting overseas students to come and study in Australia, to undertake degree studies at Australian universities.

J: Right. What subjects are they mainly interested in?

B: Well, I've found that students from Sri Lanka are particularly interested in accountancy and business, and also computing. Engineering is another field of study which is also quite popular.

J: Well I take it that they all speak English then, obviously before they come here.

B: Yes they do. In fact, Sri Lanka has quite a long tradition of English speaking. So we rarely have problems in English with students from Sri Lanka.

J: Well, when they go back, are there any problems with finding employment?

B: At present I would say yes, because of the current internal strife in the country, the economy is in a slump. It is not booming at all. So students returning from Australia with degrees, at present, are finding difficulties in getting appropriate employment.

J: Mmmm, that's unfortunate after all that study. How do you go about giving all the students the information about universities in Australia?

B: Jane, my visits to Sri Lanka have always been very brief, about three days. On the first evening I've always conducted a seminar presentation at one of the leading hotels in Sri Lanka. The seminar presentation is advertised well in advance and I've been successful in attracting large numbers of Sri Lanka students and their families who are interested in hearing about study opportunities at Australian universities. On the two days following the seminar presentation, I've conducted interviews for students who are serious about studying in Australia, and on each visit, I've interviewed a total of about 40 students over those two days.

J: Did all of those 40 decide to come here, or about how many per year?

B: No, certainly not the total of 40 decide to come to Australia. I would say that there would be about 25 percent who would finally make the decision to come and study in Australia.

J: Bob, what sort of help is given to those students when they come here?

B: Universities in Australia now have developed quite sophisticated support services for overseas students. Overseas students are met at the airport, they have accommodation arranged for them, they are transported to that accommodation. During the academic year, if they have study problems, they can get help from a number of academic counsellors at the universities. Similarly, if they experience welfare problems, particularly things like culture shock, which all students experience when they first arrive, there are skilled people who can assist them.

J: I see. What sort of questions do parents ask?

B: Parents are obviously concerned about how much it's going to cost them to send their children to Australia. That's probably the number one priority. But very high up in the list of priorities is security, How secure is it for their children in Australia. Given that the situation in Sri Lanka at the moment is no
