听力原文:W: Hello, Mark. Have you ever played cricket?
M: No, never. Have you, Joe?
W: No, but I once watched a game at the Cricket Club.
M: Did you enjoy it?
W: No, not much, though everybody else seemed to. I found it very slow. Nothing much seemed to happen. Perhaps that was because I didn't really understand what was going on.
M: It's a bit like baseball, isn't it?
W: Well, not really, In baseball there is only one man with a hat but in cricket there are two.
M: Both at the same time?
W: No. They take turns. They each stand at one end of the pitch in front of some sticks called "stumps" or the "wicket''. A member of the other team, the "bowler", threws the ball at the stumps. The batsman tries to protect the wicket and hit the ball as far as he can.
M: What happens when he hits the ball?
W: The batsmen run to change positions. That's called a "run". They do it as many times as they can. M: What does the other team do?
W: One of them runs after the ball and throws it at the wicket. If he hits it while the bats-men are still running, one of them is out.
M: That sounds a little like baseball.
W: Not really. I think baseball is more exciting.
M: Yes, so do I.

One morning I was walking in the forest and suddenly saw a lion hidden in the grass, less than three metres away. With a terrible roar(吼叫), he leaped(跳跃)toward me. I aimed my gun at it and shot. But I had no practice in shooting at moving objects at such a short distance. I didn't hit him. Only by the grace(恩典)of God, the lion made such a long leap that he went flying over my head and landed five metres away from me. Just then another hunter came running and the lion quickly ran away from me.
I returned to the camp and began to practise shooting at moving objects at short distances. It was going well and I was anxious to find some animal as my target. What I saw later was much dreadful and made me decide to give up hunting. I looked up over the fence, and there at the edge of the forest was the same lion. The lion was practicing short jumps.
Joe came back from Africa and decided to give up hunting because ______.
A.hunting in Africa was terrible
B.he had been hunting for a long time
C.he had been hunting for a short time

,he’d been unemployed, and with winter raging on the chill had finally hit home. Most of his friends had already left the Midwestern town, but he stayed on.After all,he was born here.
It was getting dark and light snow was coming down.He almost didn’t see the old lady, but in the dim light of day,he could see she needed help.He pulled up in front of her car and got out.
Even with a smile on his face, she was worried. Was he going to hurt her?He didn’t look safe;he looked poor and hungry.Joe knew how she felt and said to her,“I’m here to help you,ma’am.Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm.”She had a flat tire and Joe set about replacing it immediately. All this put the woman at ease. She then rolled down her window and began to talk to him, telling him that she was from St.Louis and was only passing through. Then the thankful woman asked Joe how much she owed him.But Joe told her that he had been given a hand in the past and if she wished to pay him back, she could give the money to someone who needed her help next time.
A few miles down the road the lady went into a small café.A waitress brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. The waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. When the waitress came back to give the lady her change from a hundred dollar bill, she found a message on a napkin:“Take this.Someone once helped me out the way I’m helping you now.If you really want to pay me back, here’s what you can do. Don’t let the chain of love end with you.”
That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed,the waitress was thinking about what the lady had written. How could the lady have known that she and her husband needed the money? With the baby due next month,it was going to be hard.Knowing how worried her husband was,she whispered soft and low to him,“Everything’s gonna be alright,I love you,Joe.”
