Part B

听力原文: The day I met Fred I was on my way home. I was very preoccupied because my boyfriend David and I had just decided that we were going to live together. I'd said to him that morning on the phone that I was sure about it. I wasn't really looking where I was going, tripped up, and fell over a pile of bricks.

There I was, sprawled out on the pavement -- my tights ripped, one workman standing on a ladder whistling at me and another on the ground pretending to pick me up, hands everywhere, when I just looked up and saw a man. He had brown eyes, a nice smile and looked slightly scruffy: he needed a shave.

He was making polite noises about haw he could help me, and I remember how everything inside me sort of clenched with a feverish feeling. Then he said that it would make me feel a lot better if we went over to that pub over there and had a drink. If ever one sentence could be said to have changed my life completely, that was it.

As we crossed the road he told me his name was Fred and I told him my name was Annie. He went to get the drinks and I dived into the toilet to take off my torn tights and tidy myself a bit. We almost crashed into each other on the way back to the table. He said, "Are you trying to get your revenge or what?" We stayed in the pub for four hours altogether. I don' t remember what I said, only what he said. That is how I first met my husband Fred.

What is the woman mainly talking about?

A.Her boyfriend David.

B.Her fall over a pile of bricks.

C.Her meeting with Fred.

D.A workman who helped.

Part A

Directions: Read the following three texts. Answer the questions on each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1.

This story began about 10 years ago. I was coming out of a very bad marriage. For seven long years my husband spent his every waking moment telling me just what was wrong with me. When I finally asked for a divorce, he answered by telling me that I would never find anyone to love me because I was just so unattractive. This went on for about two years. One night one of my friends convinced me to go out with her. We went to a nightclub and that was when I met him.

Clint was playing a game with a girl, I sat in the corner watching him. I didn't feel that I had whatever it took to get up and mix with others because of my self-esteem problem. Finally I got up the courage to order him a drink. When he got it, he gave me the most dazzling smile. We spent the rest of the evening talking until I realized that it was almost morning. I figured that he was simply being nice to me because I had bought him a drink, but the very next day he called and told me that he couldn't stop thinking about me and that he wanted to meet my kids, too.

About 3 months later, my divorce was final and Clint sat my boys down and asked them if it was all right with them if he asked me to marry him because he couldn't imagine life without the three of us any more. I was so touched that he went to my boys and asked for their approval because they were the "men of the house" at the ripe old ages of 2 and 4. They said yes and we have all been together ever since. Clint gave my boys and me a second chance at a wonderful life. Not a day goes by that he doesn't tell us that we are the best thing that ever happened to him and that he loves us.

The writer's first marriage was unsuccessful because ______.

A.her husband often woke her up at midnight

B.her husband kept criticizing her

C.she was unattractive

D.she had a self-esteem problem

PART B

Directions: For Questions 6-10, you will hear a passage. Use not more than 3 words for each answer. You will hear the recording twice. You now have 25 seconds to read the sentences and the questions below.

听力原文: Yes, I agree. Lovely breakfast. Very nice. Excellent coffee, especially, don't you think? Anyway, as I was telling you, it happens to me every time I go to a new place: I always end up paying twice or three times as much as I should for the first ride. But last night was the worst ever. The train got in at about eleven, so I felt lucky to get one--though it looked a bit old and battered. But he was so polite--and you don't get much of that these days. "Let me take your bags," he says. "It's a hot, sticky night," he says, "but don't worry, madam, it's air-conditioned, "--and it was, surprisingly--"just relax and I'll get you there in no time." So we went for miles down this road and that road and he pointed out all sorts of buildings and other sights that he said I'd appreciate when I could see them properly in the morning. And he told me that though this was one of the few cities in the world where a woman could go at that time of night on her own and nothing to fear, even so, it was a good thing I'd taken a registered vehicle, be cause you never knew, did you? Though I couldn't see any special registration number of any thing, and I didn't think to make a note of his license plate--and it wouldn't have made any difference, I don't suppose. So here I am. And as you can see, if you lookout of the Window, that's the station! Just across the road! Anyway. Well, it's a lovely hotel, isn't it? Are you on holiday, too?

Where does this monologue take place?
