“How did you manage it, John” I asked. “I thought you were going to stay for two weeks,”

“It was easy,” John answered. “I got a job.”

“A job!” I exclaimed. “What did you do?”

“I gave English lessons to a grocer,” John answered. “His name is Luigi. We have become great friends.”

“I told Luigi I couldn’t teach,” John explained. “But he insisted on having conversation lessons. He wanted to practice his English. He has a lot of American customers, so it is important for him to speak English. I spent three hours a day talking to him. In return he gave me a room, three meals a day and a little pocket money.”

"The Australian troops will be at the sharp end of efforts to combat violence by remnants of the Taliban and A1-Qaeda. Members of the special forces unit are expected to patrol remote parts of Afghanistan, searching for militants. The Prime Minister John Howard has insisted that the twelve month deployment would give the Afghan people the chance of peace and stability. He said his government would consider sending reinforcements if necessary."

Nancy Bright and her husband John had been working overtime and saving for a long time so
that they could pay the advance for Nancy s dream house. Today was the day that they had enough money in hand to make a down payment on the house. But the real estate(房地产)agent informed them that she had received another offer for the house. On closer examination she found that the notices were for all the residents to move out of the houses as they were building a highway and the whole row of houses needed to be pulled down. Nancy suddenly realized that not getting her dream house had been a blessing in disguise. She thanked God and decided to be happy with the blessings she had and started looking forward to the birth of her child.
