听力原文:MA Have you seen Rachel today?

WB Not yet. But it's only eight forty-five. I'll let her know you're looking for her when she gets in, which should be any minute now. Is there anything I should tell her?

MA Yes. We have an urgent situation with one of the pieces of art that was supposed to be revised for the Henderson poster. It should have been in yesterday afternoon. When I didn't see it this morning, I called the art vendor and they said they never received the revision request. This poster is supposed to go back to Henderson for confirmation today.

WB I'll let her know. But try not to worry—if the revision is minor we should be able to do it in-house first thing this morning.

What is learned about Rachel?

A.She is often late.

B.She called in sick.

C.She left for the day.

D.She will arrive soon.

chers in our school. Would you mind answering a few questions?

Mr. Ma: No, not at all. What do you want to know?

Student: How long have you been teaching English?

Mr. Ma: 20 years.

Student: Wwa! 20 years! That's almost as old as I am! What kind of mining have you had?

Mr. Ma: I graduated from a four-year-teacher's college about 20 years ago. I learned both English and pedagogy during my college years.

Student: Have you been to an English speaking country?

Mr. Ma: Yes. Last summer I was awarded a study-abroad scholarship in Canada.

Student: What did you do in Canada?

Mr. Ma: A Canadian college ran a teacher's training program for us Chinese teachers. We learned how to organize English classes. The program was very successful.

Student: What is your most significant accomplishment in teaching English?

Mr. Ma: One of my students won first prize in National Competition of English Skills five years ago.

Student: Competition of English Skills? What was that?

Mr. Ma: It was a competition that included speaking, listening, creating an English web page and writing English subtitles for drawings.

Student: That must have been very challenging.

Mr. Ma: Yes, I was very proud of my students. And I was very proud of myself.

Student: Are you bothered by any problems in your teaching?

Mr. Ma: Yes, of course, I am sometimes frustrated when I see the poor scores of my students in a class quiz or examination. Sometimes I don't know how to help them move forward in their studies.

Student: What is your plan to help your students get better scores in the future?

Mr. Ma: I hope to try some new interactive ways of teaching in my next term.

Student: Thank you very much for answering my questions. I have learned a lot from this interview.

MA From nineteen ninety-one until two-thousand-one, we... I should say I... operated as a sole proprietorship. I hired subcontractors as needed, but did most of the work myself. I formed a corporation in two-thousand-two, due to all the design work I was getting.

WB How many employees do you currently have?

MA We work with a group of regular subcontractors— architects, interior designers, contractors, and so on—who get together on a project-by-project basis. We find this flexibility allows us to address the specific demands of each project, regardless of its complexity or scope.

W: I have read your letter here. You seem to have done very well in school. Can you tell me something about your schoolwork?

M: Well, ma' am, I understand that you manufacture computers, prepare software, and advise diets on how to use them. Is that right?

W: What's right.

M: And I've been told that working with computers needs a logical mind rather than great skills in mathematics. That' s especially true, I believe, when it comes to writing programs. So I think my results show that I have some ability in logic and in mathematics as well.

W: So, you would like to write material for computers, would you?

M: Yes, ma'am. That's what interests me most about computers, writing programs. But I think the computer industry itself is still expanding enormously. I' m sure that career prospects in the industry would be very good.

From: Chief Accountant Date: 5 October, 2004

To: Managing Director Ref: MA/501/AC

Subject: Edmond Brothers, Bicycle Retailers

I have received a letter from Edmond Brothers dated 20th September. They would like to open an account with us and pay us quarterly on receipt of a statement from us.

I am satisfied that they are credit-worthy, and will write to them, if you agree, granting the credit terms they ask for. They have been our customers for three years and have always paid promptly on receipt of our invoices. They have recently opened a bank account, for which we were able to supply them a good reference. It would be easier for us and for them if they did not have to make separate payments each time a purchase was made.

Please let me know the decision.

听力原文: Experts from seven nations gathered at a Beijing conference Monday, contributing their ideas on security and counter-terrorism for the upcoming 2008 Olympics.

International terrorism, highly-organized transnational crime and security issues for large-scale sports events are on the agenda for the conference, which is cosponsored by the Beijing Olympics security headquarters and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, said Ma Zhenchuan, director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Ma said Beijing has been updating police work and police methods, improving equipment and boosting the overall quality of police, in anticipation of the Olympic Games. He said Beijing police will actively cooperate and communicate with international experts and establish advanced security mechanisms.

UN Deputy Secretary General David Veness said he appreciated China's goal of a "safe Olympics". "We have seen tragedies occur at some sports events in recent years and do not want that to happen in Beijing," said Veness. He hoped that Beijing could draw some valuable lessons from the conference. "China has already cooperated extensively with our organization and we have witnessed the huge efforts made by China over the past few years," said the official.

Beijing police have been testing security mechanisms since 2005 at many international sports events in the city, said Liu Shaowu, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Liu said the Beijing police will continue to work on Olympic security, and particularly risks represented by terrorism and organized crime.

听力原文: Good morning, class. I have some great news for you all. Contemporary novelist Marie Irvine is coming to our university next month to lecture on the influence of women writers in the literary scene. If you can recall, we have read a few of Ms. Irvine's works in our textbook, and she is often considered one of the dozen best writers in the country. Not only is she going to give a lecture here, but also I have been able to convince her to lead a creative writing workshop for interested students. Since this is an advanced writing class, and you all have made considerable progress, I decided to offer the class the opportunity to join the workshop before this is offered to the entire campus.

The workshop will be two days long, held in the main lecture hall of this building. Ms. Irvine has assured me that participants in the workshop will work closely with her and get all the personal attention they need. She will particularly focus on the problems of female writing. Since there are only fifteen spots open for this workshop, I suggest you sign up as soon as possible before all the seats are taken. The cost of the workshop is $ 200, and this fee includes all your materials and a dinner banquet that will be held afterwards. You must pay an $ 80 deposit to reserve a spot, and the remainder of the tuition must be paid in two weeks. I should mention that the English department is co-sponsoring the workshop. If you would like to register, please see me after class. I encourage you to take advantage of this rare opportunity.
