听力原文: Political leaders in Iraq have been engaged in tough bargaining to try to reach

a consensus on the final draft of the country's new constitution. Monday is the deadline for the draft to be presented to the Iraqi parliament for a vote on whether to ratify it. And the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has said the draft should be ready by the end of today. Mike Wooldridge reports from Baghdad.

Time is running out if the deadline is to be met. And this has brought individual political blocs closer to agreement among themselves on a number of the outstanding issues. But sources close to the discussion say the question of the actual distribution of resources, particularly the lucrative revenue from oil between the country's regions, remains contentious at this point, and it bears on the whole issue of federalism which has been the biggest sticking point throughout this past week of negotiations. So not only this trading continue between the parties in the present government, but a broader consensus on the constitution has yet to be achieved before the document is put to parliament. The alternative is a partial deal that some say would be realistic, others futile.

Iraqi political leaders are bargaining to reach an agreement on ______.

A.the country's new constitution

B.the fate of Saddam Hussein

C.American withdrawal from Iraq

D.the country's new capital

听力原文: The European allies will resume talks with Iran in Paris on Tuesday to insist th
at the nation restrict its nuclear activities to civilian purposes, a leading Genuan legislator said.

"The Europeans are very clear about that," Volker Ruehe, chairman of the foreign affairs committee in the German parliament, said Wednesday.

Ruehe was in Washington primarily to talk to Bush administration officials about Germany' s drive for a reorganization of the U.N. Security Council that would give Germany a permanent seat.

On a recent visit to Iran, Ruehe said, he found lower-level Iranian officials saying openly "they want to go nuclear." He said they view having nuclear weapons as a matter of national pride, which makes negotiating a ban on weapon development a political problem.

With strong U.S. support, Germany, Britain and France have taken the lead in seeking a negotiated settlement.

If talks fail, the United States and the allies have agreed to take their concerns to the International Atomic Energy Agency's board in Vienna and probably then to the U.N. Security Council, where the United States would be expected to push for economic and political sanctions.

The German delegation went to Washington ______

A.informing US President George Bush of its recent visit to Iran

B.consulting with US President George Bush for Iron's nuclear development

C.talking about political and economic sanctions to be imposed on Iran

D.asking America' s favor for its proposal to victory U.N. Security Council

听力原文: Leaders of the main political parties in Germany have broken with tradition to t
ake part in an extra day of campaigning before Sunday's general election. The eve of voting is normally treated as a day of reflection. But the contest is so close (that) they are both still trying to win voters. Opinion polls still put the centre right parties led by Angela Merkel ahead with just under 50 percent, although Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of the governing Social Democratic Party has narrowed the gap dramatically. From Berlin Ray F. reports.

This last day of campaigning once again focuses the attention on the duel between Chancellor Schroeder and his challenger Angela Merkel. Mrs. Merkel addressed a rally in Bonn, a safe conservative seat, where she told her audience, "use your vote responsibly." Later Mrs. Merkel moves on to Frankfurt to attend an international motor show. Chancellor Schroeder will also be there holding a large final rally after earlier speaking in the town of Recklinghausen, in the industrial Rhine district, a Social Democrats' stronghold.

According to the polls, which party takes the lead at present?

A.Social Democratic Party

B.Labor Party

C.The center-right parties

D.The center-left parties

听力原文: (29) It is commonly believed in the United States that school is where people go to get an education. Nevertheless, (31)the distinction between schooling and education implied a lot.

(30) Education is much more open-ended and all-inclusive than schooling. It can take place anywhere, whether in the shower or in the job. It includes both the formal learning that takes place in schools and the whole universe of informal learning. The agents of education can range from a revered grandparent to the people debating politics on the radio, from a child to a distinguished scientist. Whereas schooling has a certain predictability, education quite often produces surprises. A chance conversation with a stranger may lead a person to discover how little is known of other religions. People are engaged in education from infancy on. Education, then, is a very broad, inclusive term. It is a lifelong process, a process that starts long before the start of school, and one that should be an integral part of one's entire life.

Schooling, on the other hand, is a specific, formalized process, whose general pattern varies little from one setting to the next. Throughout a country, children arrive at school at approximately the same time, take as- signed seats, are taught by an adult, use similar textbooks, do homework, take exams, and so on. The slices of reality that are to be learned, whether they are the alphabet or an understanding of the working of government, have usually been limited by the boundaries of the subject being taught. For example, high school students know that they're not likely to find out in their classes the truth about political problems in their communities or what the newest filmmakers are experimenting with. There are definite conditions surrounding the formalized process of schooling.

(30)

A.At school.

B.At home.

C.In a community.

D.In a library.
