听力原文: (29) Tile Golden Gate Bridge joins the beautiful city of San Francisco with its suburbs to the north. (26)Each day, about one hundred thousand cars cross the bridge, taking people to and from the city. More than half of them cross the bridge during the morning and evening rush hours. As a result, the trip is not pleasant.
Now, however, there is at least one group of happy commuters. These are the people who travel under the bridge instead of on it. They go to work by boat and enjoy it so much that most say they will never go by car again. (29)The boat they take is the large, quite, comfortable "Golden Gate". (27)Commuters can enjoy the sun on the boat. In the morning they can have breakfast in the coffee shop, and in the evening they can have a drink in the bar while they are looking at San Francisco's famous scene and the nearby hills.
The trip takes only thirty minutes and is not very expensive. And what's more, being on a boat seems to make people feel more friendly towards each other. Two commuters who met on the "Golden Gate" have already got married.
Because the boat has been so successful, there are plans to use other, still larger boats. There is also a plan for a high speed boat that will make the trip in only fifteen minutes. (28)Not everyone is happy about that. "A lot of people don't want to get the trip faster," said one commuter. "They feel that half an hour is just enough time to rest."
(33)
A.Because the trip takes as long as 30 minutes.
B.Because the bridge is too long.
C.Because the bridge is crowded with cars.
D.Because the drivers can't enjoy the beauty there.
Directions: Read the following article about work. Are sentences 1-9 “True” or “False”? 下面的短文后列出了9个句子,请根据短文的内容对每个句子做出判断。 Lucky’s Greatest Treasure Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named “Lucky.” Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit, they would warn their friends not to leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary or Jim would go to Lucky’s toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky’s other favorite toys. Lucky always stored his finds in his toy box. It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease. She scheduled a double mastectomy(乳房切除术), fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital, she hugged Lucky closely in her arms. A thought struck her — what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary’s dog through and through. “If I die, Lucky will be abandoned”, Mary thought, “He won’t understand that I didn’t want to leave him”. The thought made her sadder than that of her own death. The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim faithfully took Lucky for his evening walk, but the little dog just hung down, whining (哀鸣) and miserable. Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted that she couldn’t even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn’t come to her when she called. It made Mary sad, but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed. When Mary woke, for a second she couldn’t understand what was wrong. She couldn’t move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sad dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love. Mary forgot about dying. Instead, she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It’s been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stores them secretly in his toy box, but Mary remains his greatest treasure. 1. Lucky is Mary and her husband’s pet dog.
