听力原文: Public television in America grew out of the many local stations that broadcast educational programs in the 1950s. In 1967 Congress passed the Public Broadcast Act. The goal of this law was to provide educational programs for all Americans. There is a major difference between public television and commercial television. (26)Commercial television programs are paid for by companies that advertise their products or services during the program. Public television programs do not have such advertising messages. Another difference is that commercial television is pressured by advertisers to broadcast programs popular with huge groups of people. These include comedies and game shows. Public television does not face such pressures. (27)It can broadcast programs of interest to smaller groups of people. These programs are often more unusual, creative and experimental than programs broadcast on commercial television.

Public television in America presents many kinds of programs. There are news and opinion programs. There are films about social and historical events. And there are shows about science and nature. (28)There are shows to teach people how to cook, grow vegetables or fix a house. There are many drama programs produced in Britain. And there are programs that present the music, dance and theater of America.

So many local American people enjoy the public television, most of the time, they spent the day or their leisure time on it and also got the information from the programmes.

(27)

A.The government.

B.Companies that advertise their products or services.

C.Huge groups of audiences.

lped many learners to improve their English. CD-ROM combines the benefits of video and Computer Assisted Language Learning / and is already beginning to make a strong impact in language learning.

Compact Disk Read Only Memory / means that you can read information stored on the disk / but not re cord anything new on it. This makes it especially practical for schools or Self-access centers / where there will be many CD-ROM users.

There are two main categories of programs. There are language reference CD-ROM programs such as dictionaries. You can look up words you do not know and read their meanings; often there are helpful illustrations. You can listen to how these words are pronounced. And you can do all this extremely quickly-in, seconds.

The second type of program is to help you on your language learning course. Programs differ depending on level and content.

听力原文:M: Mary, (19)you want to talk about your second essay, right?

W: Yes, Dr. Richardson. I just need your comments on what I'm planning to do. (19)I'm doing the essay on the differences between TV news programs at different hours of the day.

M: How many times slots are you planning to consider?

W: Well, I think I'd look at all of them. That'd be five slots. The breakfast news, midmorning news. midday news. mid-afternoon news and evening news.

M: That's rather a lot. And you'd have too much to consider. (20)Why don't you just do two. Say the midmorning and then evening news. That should give you two contrasting approaches with two main audience compositions.

W: OK, just two then.

M: Yes, I think that would be much better. Now how many actual programs do you plan to work with?

W: What do you think of analyzing a whole week's news programs?

M: Well, that depends on how much of each program, if you concentrate on one particular type of news item, say the sports news or local items, it might be alright.

W: Yes. that would be a good idea. (21)I won't make a decision before I collect a sample of programs over a whole week. I'll look at them and see what items appear throughout the week.

M: Yes, that's a sound approach. (22)Now we’re getting close to the deadline. Can you finish it in time?

W: Yes, I think so. I've completed the reading and I know what my basic approach is, so it's really just a matter of pulling it all together now.

M: Fine, Mary. I'll look forward to reading it.

(23)

A.To discuss the second essay.

B.To get the comments on TV news.

C.To plan to join TV news programs.

D.To tell the difference of TV news.

Other adults learn job skills like computer science or woodworking. Still other adult students learn to read or improve their English.

Some adult students are not trying to finish their education or learn job skills. Instead, they want to explore new interests. They want to learn to speak a foreign language, play a musical instrument or take good pictures. They attend continuing education programs at a community college or public school. An agency in the Federal Department of Education supervises public adult education programs. Also, the government offers classes in many subjects for adults through the departments of Agriculture and Defense. So do private companies, labor unions and other organizations. These subjects include the arts, science and business.

Adult education classes meet in schools, public libraries and business offices. They also meet in religious centers and shopping centers. Classes in nature sciences and sports often take place outside.

Which is NOT the purpose of the adult students taking part in adult programs?

A.To finish their education.
