The statistics of the worldwide water crisis are staggering. 1 in 5 people lack access to a safe water supply. 2 in 5 don't have basic sanitation and a child dies every 30 seconds, as a result of a lack of clean drinking water and sanitation. For a long time what are known as hard approaches to solving these problems were predominantly applied, the construction for example of large-scale infrastructure such as dams and irrigation systems. This year the conference hosts at the Stockholm International Water Institute want to focus attention on ensuring these methods are balanced with soft approaches such as marketing campaigns to promote hand washing. The conference will also consider the impact of corruption and development, how climate change affects world water supplies, and the opportunities for water sharing in the Middle East, which is facing severe water scarcity.
The conference addresses the following issues EXCEPT ______.
A.poverty
B.gender inequality
C.environmental protection
D.world peace

听力原文: My story began in the years following World War Ⅱ, when men like my father who had served their country returned home to settle down, make a living and raise a family. It was the beginning of the Baby Boom, an optimistic time. The United States had saved the world from fascism, and now our nation was working to unite former adversaries in the aftermath of war, reaching out to allies and to former enemies, securing the peace and helping to rebuild a devastated Europe and Japan. Although the Cold War was beginning with the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, my parents and their generation felt secure and hopeful. American supremacy was the result not just of military might, but of our values and of the abundant opportunities available to people like my parents who worked hard and took responsibility. Middle-class America was flush with emerging prosperity and all that comes with it—new houses, fine schools, neighborhood parks and safe communities. Yet our nation also had unfinished business in the post-war era, particularly regarding race. And it was the World War Ⅱ generation and their children who woke up the challenges of social injustice and inequality and to the ideal of extending America's promise to all of its citizens. My parents were typical of a generation who believed in the endless possibilities of America and whose values were rooted in the experience of living through the Great Depression.
My father served in World War II.

Most of the representatives at the recent World Social Forum oppose globalization. They do not agree with the economic theory of a worldwide economy. Some people attending the forum wanted to end the movement toward a global economy. Others wanted to reform. it.
Activists at the World Social Forum say globalization policies have caused a greater inequality between the poorest and the richest people in the world. The Forum met to find ways to support economic policies based on the needs of poor people and the environment.
United Nations studies show that the poorest 20% of the world's people have lost half of their share of the world's income since 1960. Their share dropped from 2.4% to 1.1%. During the same years, income increased for the richest twenty percent of the population. The rich people increased their share of world income from 69% to 86%.
