听力原文: Hotels today are quite different from those of the past. People who stay in them are generally traveling for business, or they are touring or on vacation. So hotels are designed mainly to meet the needs of one of these two groups of people. Hotels designed for business people are known as commercial, or transient hotels. Hotels for people on vacation are called vacation, or resort hotels.

Transient hotels are usually located in the business section of a town, while resort hotels may be at the seashore, on a mountain lake, or in the desert.

In addition to these two main types, there is a third type of hotel, called a residential hotel. This is designed to meet the needs of people who want to live in a hotel.

Inns and hotels arc located in nearly every population center in the world. In the United States alone there are a bout thirty thousand. Some hotels have as few as ten rooms, others have several hundred. Among the largest hotels in the world today are the Conrad Hilton in Chicago, Illinois, and the Russia in Moscow, each with about three thousand rooms.

I'm more of a host than a guest. I like people to stay with me but do not care about stayi
ng with them, and usually say I am busy. I think the life without friends is regrettable; the life without quietness is terrible.

The only people I ask to stay with me are those I like. But I am still more delighted when they go, and the house is ours again. I feel that I may be mistaken in these guests, and this may happen at times. They leave me more room in which to live properly. My mind, like my body, wears its old clothes again. I like to think about life in this world, and it is not easy to do this when talkative people are all over the place.

With the guests about, I find myself a solid. I feel uneasy. Often I feel I have nothing meaningful to say. I try my best to think of something interesting and useful to devote them. But usually it seems that no one appreciate what I focus on. Many times I even got angry over what they said, which made them upset. Frankly speaking, I am not used to gathering together with friends chatting, although I'd like them to stay with me. Somehow I feel nervous with them. But as soon as they have gone, I release myself completely, I expand into a gas again. And a gas can have more delight than solid.

So goodbye ! Guests.

It seems to the writer that the most enjoyable part of being a host is ______.

A.having a lot of friends with him

B.showing his guests to the door

C.the arrival of the guests

D.having meals with the friends he likes

听力原文: Influenza, or the flu, attacks up to one billion people annually. In the US, it
kills 20,000 annually, most of whom are children or elderly. Occasionally the flu becomes pandemic: in 1918, it killed 20 million people worldwide. (32)The flu is a kind of infection which spreads through the air by coughing, sneezing, or simply talking. It is not caused by getting caught in a rainstorm or by sleeping with the fan or air-conditioning on.

(33)It doesn't sneak up on you for the first few days, like a cold does. All of a sudden, you feel weak, you have a high fever, you have chills, yon cough frequently and forcefully, your throat is sore, and your body aches.

For most adults, the treatment is to simply wait it out: stay home, get lots of bed rest, drink lots of fluids, and take over-the-counter medications such as aspirin and pain-killers. Symptoms usually go away within two weeks. (34) For the elderly and young, it may become a bacterial infection with deadly consequences, because the victim becomes too weak to battle the disease. The death rate for the general population is about one in 1,000. (34) Those most susceptible to severe effects of the flu are people over 65 and people with chronic heart or lung problems.

Flu season in the US is usually from December to March. (35)The best prevention, of course, is to stay away from infected people. Since that is almost impossible, the next best preventive strategy is to get an annual flu shot. This vaccine reduces the number of people who get infected -- and who die -- yearly.

(33)

A.By getting in caught by a rainstorm.

B.By sleeping with the air-conditioning on.

C.By talking with the infected people.

D.By having a bad ventilation system.
