听力原文： Last summer I visited Mexico City to see the ancient art in museums there. I was surprised at how well I managed to got around even though I don' t speak a word of Spanish. Yen just have to he able to make the right decision in a talk situation. The manager of my hotel gave me a map of the city and told me that the best way to get to the museum was by subway. I didn ' t know where the nearest subway was. But I was sure I would find it if I walked a little. After an hour I was still walking. I was completely lost. Just then a policeman came over and showed me the nearest station, I looked at the subway map and wall and didn' t know which line to take. In fact I wasn't shown which station I was in. Most people would give up in that situation but not me. After I thought it was over, I knew exactly what to do. I went upstairs and took a taxi.

M: Yeah, So what are you going to do this summer, anything special？

M: We were going to go about ten, well, no, it was exactly ten years ago, but I don't know, something happened, I cannot remember what.
W: Something changed your plans？
M: Yeah, don't ask me what it was, but we ended up not going anywhere that year. I hope that doesn't happen again this year. I wrote a paper about Gettysburg last semester for a history class. I was talking about the political situation in the United States right after the battle at Gettysburg. So I'm eager to see the place.

W: Well, it all began when I started growing a beard.
M: Mm...and when was that exactly？
W: Just after my fourth birthday, I believe.
M: Really？ As early as that？ Didn't you see a doctor？
W: Oh, yes, my parents took me to dozens of specialists.
M: And what did they have to say？
W: They just told me to shave.
M: That's all the advice they could give？ So you started shaving？
W: Well, I was too young to be allowed to use a razor, and electric razors weren't even thought of in thee days, so my dad used to shave me once a week before going to church on Sundays.
M: And when did you stop shaving？
W: Oh, that would have been when I was around fifteen. You see it was growing at an enormous rate, something like five inches a day, I mean you could almost see it growing, and it was so thick. I mean a razor or scissors were no use.
M: So you...let it grow？
W: Well, it was taking so much lime trying to keep it down and I was just wasting my time fighting a losing battle. So I thought...I'll just let it grow...and that's when I came to work in the circus. I was spotted by a talent scout.
M: Do you...ever cut your beard now？
W: Oh, yes, every week I chop off a few feet. I have to cut it or I fall over it if I don't remember to wrap it around my waist.

听力原文： My daughter and I had been searching for the origins of my grandfather, Alfred Denny, for several years. We had nothing definite except that he married Minerva Ann Hamilton in Michigan in 1860.
When I was a small child, my father had given me the address of his "Aunt Maggie," Mrs. William Rarick of Everson, Washington. She and I exchanged letters for about three years while I was still a youngster. My father died without giving any further information about his relatives.
About eighty-five years after my correspondence with Aunt Maggie, I decided to see if I could pick up the trail and find out exactly how she fit into the family puzzle. By then I was in my nineties so I knew the odds were not on my side, but I called the telephone operator for a number of anybody by the name of Rarick in the town of Everson, Washington. She told me they have a Charles Rarick and an L. Rarick. I asked her to ring Charles, but there was no answer so I asked her to try L. Rarick.
A woman answered and I said, "Hello, this is Carleton Denny. I am trying to locate relatives of Margaret Rarick."
The lady on the telephone took a long breath and hesitantly said, "She was my grandmother."
I learned that Aunt Maggie was my grandfather's half sister. The "L" stood for Luella, who still used her maiden name. I had found my family.
