听力原文: The recorded civilization of India is one of the longest in the course of world history, and its myth, linked to its religions and to the development of its civilization, spans an even greater length of time. Unlike the myth of most countries, particularly western countries, Indian myth is still a part of the living culture of the people on all levels of society, from the illiterate masses to the educated elite, and from the poverty stricken to the nation's wealthiest.

The Indians have always tended to retain early be life and mold them to reflect new social conditions or to fit these early beliefs into a new philosophical scheme. This tendency has led to a phenomenon in which the number of gods and the myths attached to them are constantly increasing, despite attempts over the centuries of priests and philosophers to impose on the people the idea of materialism or of a single god. Indian myth is truly a living myth, evolving as a consequence of historical circumstances like the changes of dynasties, economic conditions, and the resultant social changes experienced by the Indian people. In other words, the myth changes to explain and record actual historical events.

(27)

A.It is as long as the civilization of India.

B.It is as long as that of any western country.

C.It is a life shorter than the civilization of India.

D.It is longer than the civilization of India.

听力原文: Today, we are going to continue our discussion of Buddhism. In our last class, we talked about how it practiced. Today, I'd like to talk a little about early Buddhism, which we really don't know much about. Well, what is known is that the teachings of Buddhism were memorized, and passed on orally for centuries by its followers. Recently, there was an important discovery of Buddhist manuscripts that are believed to be the oldest ever found. They may be 2,100 years old. And there maybe as many as 20 of them. It's expected that we will be able to learn from them about the spread of Buddhism from present day India into China, and throughout Asia. But the scrolls themselves have presented challenge too. They were very fragile, found rolled up in clay pots. Before they even could be looked at, they need to be dampened over night in fact, and then carefully flattened with tweezers. And it's not that anybody could just sit down and read them. The scrolls were written in a language that is really rare today. Only a few people are proficient at it. Considering these challenges, it's easy to understand why it takes scholars so long to examine the scrolls.

(43)

A.Recently discovered manuscripts

B.Similarities among religions

C.Methods of analyzing ancient manuscripts

D.How ancient manuscripts are preserved

听力原文: During the past quarter century, abortion has joined race and war as one of the most contentious subjects of controversy in the United States. It discusses human interaction where ethics, emotions, and law collaborate. Many have contemplated upon the meaning of abortion. One argument is that every child born should be wanted. The people in lieu of this theory are often referred to as Pro-choice activists. The opposing argument is that every child conceived should be born, this theory epitomized by Pro-life activists. A public consensus exists that when human personhood starts, the law must protect person. Many religions, organizations, and individuals have fervently held conflicting beliefs about when this transpires. This naturally leads to differing policies on whether a woman should have access to abortion or not.

This brings us to the scientific aspect of the controversy. The interminable question surrounding the controversy is this: When does a baby actually become a baby? A female's ovum and a male's sperm are both clearly alive. They are living organisms ready to be joined as one to form. a baby. It is pointed out, however, that women release a few hundred eggs in a lifetime. Almost all of these eggs are destined to die and be ejected from the body. Little thought is given to these hundreds of deaths. Again, little consideration is given to these deaths. Yet, a public consensus exists that they are not yet human persons.

Which of the following are in favour of abortion if it is necessary?

A.Religious people.

B.Research scientists.

C.Pro-life activists.

D.Pro-choice activists.
