听力原文: An Army reservist who appeared in several of the most infamous abuse photos taken by guards at Abu Ghraib prison was sentenced Tuesday to six months in prison for her role in the scandal that rocked the U.S. military's image at home and abroad.

The sentence for Spc. Sabrina Harman came a day after she was convicted on six of the seven counts she faced for mistreating detainees at the Baghdad lockup in late 2003. She faced a maximum of five years in prison, though prosecutors asked the jury to give her three years. With credit for time served, Harman' s actual sentence will be just more than four months.

During Tuesday' s sentencing hearing, she tearfully apologized for mistreating Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

"As a soldier and military police officer, I failed my duties and failed my mission to protect and defend," Harman said, hex voice cracking. "I not only let down the people in Iraq, but I let down every single soldier that serves today."

According to the report, the actual sentence of Sabrina Harman is expected to be ______

A.only more than four months

B.six months

C.three years

D.five years

Currently the Pentium chip or(71), made by(72), is the most common CPU though there are many other companies that produce processors for personal computers. One example is the CPU made by Motorola which is used in Apple computers. With faster processors the clock speed becomes more important. Compared to some of the first computers which operated at below 30 megahertz((73))the Pentium chips began at 75 megahertz in the late 1990g. As of mid 2003 speeds now exceed 3000 + megahertz or 3 gigahertz(check your local computer store for the latest speed). It depends on the(74)that the chip is housed in, or the(75), as to whether you are able to upgrade to a faster chip. Read the passage and give a brief analysis to the discussion questions. Zhong Min had a very good American friend Sue. The two usually ate lunch together and Zhong Min often asked Sue for advice on problems she faced adjusting to American society. Sue gave Zhong Min a lot of advice and helped her improve her English. Once Zhong Min urgently needed a large sum of money to pay her tuition fee. Since she had no other friends in the States, she asked Sue for help and promised that she would return the money soon. Zhong Min was disappointed when Sue didn’t seem happy to lend the money. Though Zhong Min returned the money two months later, the two didn’t get along well from then on. Questions: 1. What’s the problem? What are the differences between what American and Chinese people expect from their friends? 2. What would you give to both so they could get to know each other better?

第9题
Trees are useful to man in three very important ways: they provide him with wood and other
products; they give him shade; and they help to prevent droughts (干旱) and floods.

Unfortunately, man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important. Two thousand years ago a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build war ships, with which to gain itself an empire. It gained the empire, but, without its trees, its soil became hard and poor. When the empire fell to pieces, the home-country found itself faced by flood and starvation.

(77) Even though a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees, it is difficult for it to persuade villagers to see this. The villagers want wood to cook their food with; and they can earn money by selling wood. They are usually too lazy to plant and look after the trees. (78) So, unless the government has a good system of control, or can educate the people, the forests will slowly disappear.

This does not only mean that the villagers' children and grandchildren will have fewer trees. The results are even more serious, for where there are trees their roots break the soil up allowing the rain to sink in—and also bind the soil, thus preventing its being washed away easily but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away from the surface, causing flood.

What is the most important function of trees?

A.Providing fuel.

B.Offering shade.

C.Preventing natural disaster.

D.Providing wood.

听力原文:W: No luck then, John?

M: I'm afraid not, ma'am. Not yet, anyhow. We're still checking on stolen cars.

W: Mm.

M: Where do you think he'll head for, ma' am?

W: Well, he definitely won't try to leave the country yet. He may try to get a passport, and he'll certainly need clothes and money. He'll probably get in touch with Cornfield for those, so I expect he'll make for Birmingham.

M: Right. I'll put some men on the house.

W: Yes, do that. Mind you, I doubt if he'll show up there in person. Hammond's no fool, you know. I should think he'll probably use a telephone.

M: What about his wife?

W: Mm. I shouldn't think he'll go anywhere near her—though he might get her to join him after he's left the country. And when he does leave, he probably won't use a major airport, either. So you'd better notify the coastguard, and keep an eye on the private airfields.

M: Right, ma' am. I'd better get his description circulated.

W: Yes. He may change his appearance, of course. And John--be careful. He could be armed. And if I know Hammond, he certainly won't give himself up without a fight.

Question:19. According to the woman, where might the wanted person first go?

20.How will the wanted man probably get in touch with Cornfield according to the women?

21.What will the wanted man deal with his wife?

22.According to the police, how will the wanted man try to leave the country?

(23)

A.The country.

B.Another country.

C.Cornfield.

D.Birmingham.
