听力原文:China's car boom is presenting the country of 1.3 billion with a dilemma.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, for instance, is experimenting with a plan to limit the number of vehicles entering the city during the two-week sports extravaganza next summer by using odd-and even-numbered license plates. Traffic gridlock and air pollution have been haunting organizers. International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge even hinted at the possibility of rescheduling some endurance events if air quality doesn't improve. The country's car population has been growing due to an emerging middle class that desires personal mobility. Already, China has become the world's second largest consumer of auto- mobiles and the third biggest maker of automobiles.

What does the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games plan to do to solve the problems caused by car boom?

A.Reduce the number of cars by increasing the relevant tax.

B.Reschedule some endurance events to avoid the traffic jam.

C.Limit the number of vehicles by using odd-and even-numbered license plates.

D.Prevent cars from entering Beijing from other provinces.

听力原文: I travel quite a lot in Beijing. I think the underground railway is marvelous. I nearly always travel by tube because it is fast and cheap. But I also like to travel by bike, particularly for short journeys. Beijing's public transport is quite efficient. You can go almost wherever you like by public transport. Buses usually run at very short intervals. But they are rather crowded and slow, particularly in the rush hour. The roads get very congested and there are traffic jams at busy crossroads. When you are in a hurry, the best way to travel in Beijing is by tube. Taxis get held up in traffic jams and besides, the fares are quite high.

In China today the most common way of traveling is still by rail, although traveling by car or coach is getting more and more popular. We have almost all the provinces and big cities connected by the railways. There are over 53,000 kilometers of track in China. Rail transport provides a very important service to the public, to industry and commerce. Rail fares are usually lower than airfares. They are almost the same as coach fares, but traveling by train is more comfortable than traveling by car or coach.

(23)

A.How to improve transportation.

B.The best transportation facilities.

C.A comparison between railway and airplane.

D.Transportation in China.

Man: Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation declared Tuesday a price-cutting plan for its car parts aiming to increase its market share in China. According to the plan, hundreds of components for Passat and Polo, its two dominant cars in China, will get large price cuts of between 25 and 80 percent starting Oct. 1. The price adjustment "will offer more preferential prices and lower the maintenance costs for consumers" as the corporation has formed "batch-produced ability for components" and set up an "after-sale service network" around the country, said a company spokesman. The spokesman said insurance premiums and purchasing and usage costs will also decline. Consequently, the two cars will become more competitive and help consumers regain confidence in the car market. China's car market is price-sensitive, but experts noted that price cuts only have short-term effects. In the long run, other factors will win out. Shanghai Volkswagen is one of the top car sales companies in China.

Woman: China strives to build the "remanufacturing" industry as one of its pillar manufacturing industries, said Xu Binshi, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, in Beijing Wednesday. "China will also set up related auxiliary industries, aiming to promote the national economy and realize re-employment and sustainable development," said Xu at a national workshop on "recycled economy". He went on to say that remanufacturing and self-renovation are considered in China's medium and long-term plans as a priority development theme and a key technology in the manufacturing sector. From the 1990s on, there have been enterprises in China studying remanufacturing, said Xu. Although the remanufacturing project is yet to be mature, he said, it is a "sunrise industry" and a potential giant industry, which has the ability to improve the quality and performance of products, reduce material consumption, save energy resources and protect the environment. Xu added that the crucial step of putting forward China's remanufacturing industry is to establish relevant laws and standardize business activity and market operation.
