听力原文: The rights we are granted by the Constitution to guarantee the basic freedoms of speech, religion, petition, press, and assembly. By exercising these rights, freedom can be discovered, and can also be costly. The corruption for power is a popular factor in the decay of American rights. For example, if the underdog wishes to attack the wrong doings of leaders, the underdog's accusations may be twisted and undermine the real issue. The power to distort often gives the assistance to higher authority, and often leads to victory. Therefore people often lose rights that they have originally been given. Given the fact that out of all Americans today, two percent are millionaires, and fifty percent of this number happen to be Jewish people; this might reinforce the belief that the persecution lead the Jewish to become a strong entity that would not be defeated. America's leaders seem oblivious to the corruption that they are leading to, by denying the rights of one to support the powerful. "Money is the root of all evil, and a man needs roots."

Who are really supposed to be underdogs, according to the passage you have heard?

A.The losers.

B.The bosses.

C.The officials.

D.The millionaires.

M: You know all the classes we've missed because of the snow?

W: Uh oh ....

M: Yup-we're going to have to make them up and the dean says it will have to be during spring break.

W: Sam! We have our-vacation all set! What are we going to do? Do the others know?

M: I don't know but I certainly can't afford to miss five days of classes this semester, with that week I was sick ....

W: But I really don't want to cancel our trip. All of us have already made our plane reservations!

M: I can try to call the travel agency; maybe they can refund our money. But before we do anything we need to speak with our professors.

W: You think they'll excuse us from class?

M: Probably not. But I was talking to Mark this morning and he said that one of his professors told him that they could make up the class at a different time.

W: Wow--that's great! Which professor was it?

M: I don't know. But we're going to have to speak to all of them anyway.

W: Why didn't they add extra days at the end of the semester before summer classes?

M: Because of the graduation date, which can't be changed.

W: Are other colleges around here doing the same thing?

M: I would imagine set---it's been such a bad winter and we've missed too many classes. We do really need to make them up.

W: I know, I know. I was just really looking forward to this vacation. The idea of the sun and the beach!

SECTION B PASSAGES

听力原文: It is a dark stormy night when suddenly the phone rings. I casually answer the telephone. It is my older sister informing me that our mother is in the hospital. She is going to need an emergency brain transplant. It takes me just a moment to drop everything I am doing and rush to the hospital. When I arrive I see my father and sister in the waiting room casually enjoying their conversation. I am amazed they could have such high spirits at such a time. As I begin to confront them on this, they inform. me that this is merely a routine brain transplant. They reinforce that very few die from the actual transplant. I become immediately relieved as a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders. Issues of transplants, vaccines, and medicine are such that, whether anyone realizes it, they are becoming a social concern that does affect each of us. Nearly each and every one of us today has received vaccine shots. We have all used medications. We have all heard of transplant technology. This above example I have used is farfetched. Brain transplants are not an everyday occurrence. They are not yet, at least. However, kidney and heart transplants are beginning to become a more and more common every day. Who knows what is possible with the proper research.

Why did the speaker drop everything at the time?

A.Because she received a telephone call at midnight.

B.Because her mother was sent to a hospital.

C.Because her older sister was seriously ill.

D.Because her father was sent to a hospital.

听力原文: Everywhere we look, we see Americans running. They run for every reason anybody could think of. They nm for health, for beauty to lose weight, to feel fit and because it's the thing they love to do. Every year, for instance, thousands upon thousands of people run in one race, the Boston Marathon ,the best known long distance race in the United States. In recent years ,there have been nearly 5,000 official competitors and it takes three whole minutes for the crowd of runners just to cross the starting line. You may have heard the story of the Greek runner Phidippides. He ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver the news of the great victory 2,500 years ago. No one knows how long it took him to run the distance. But the story tells us that he died of the effort. Today no one will die in a Marathon race. But the effort is still enormous. Someone does come in first in this tiring foot race. But at the finish line, we see what this race is about: not being first but finishing. The real victory is not over one’s fellow runners but over one’s own body. It’s a victory of will-power over fatigue. In the Boston Marathon, each person who crosses that finish line is a winner.

The real victory for the participants of Marathon race is ______.

A.the victory over one’s fellow runners

B.the victory over former winners

C.the victory of will-power over fatigue

D.the victory of one’s physical strength
