听力原文:(Knock, knock...) M: Come in. W: Good morning, Mr Brown. M: Oh, come in, Mary. Ive been expecting you. Take a seat. W: Thanks. M: And what can I do for you? W: Well, I was thinking about taking a year off after we finish school this summer, and I wanted some advice. M: I see. You mean putting off going to university for a year? W: Thats right. Ive been offered a place at London University, but what Id really like to do is take a year out first — do something different, maybe go abroad. M: So were you thinking of getting some sort of job, or travelling around? I mean, is your main aim to earn some money, or to do something else? Or do you want to do a bit of both? W: Id really like to travel — but I dont have any money. But Ive heard of an organisation called Peterson International — and thats what I want to ask you about. Do you know anything about it? M: Sure. Its a charity and its aimed very much at young people like you, and what they do is to get teams of young people to work together on various projects all over the world—environment projects, community projects, that sort of thing. W: Mum, it sounds great. Is it just English people on the projects? M: No, theyre international teams. Youd be working with quite a variety of people. Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. When does Mary want to take a year off? 14. What projects does Peterson International carry out? 15. Where do the people in the Peterson International teams come from?13.

听力原文:M: You like living in the city, dont you? W: Oh, I love it. Its so convenient. I
can take the bus to work, or the subway, or the taxi. And there is so much more to do. M: I know what you mean. Id like to live in the city, but to live in the suburbs is better for children. W:Well, there are a lot of good things about suburban living. But, as a working woman, I think a city has all the conveniences, including the best food and fastest news. M: But there are more trees, grass and fresh air in the suburbs. W:Yeah, but living in a city, its convenient to go everywhere. There are lots of movie houses, theatres and so on. You can take them to the suburbs on weekends. M: Yeah, my children are at the right age. There are lots of things for them here. W: You are right. They are at the library in Brooklyn. And they come back home for lunch, then go uptown to the Museum of Natural History. There is so much for young people to see and do. M: Not just for young people. What about me? Ive never been to the Museum of Natural History. W: Neither have I. When I was a child, I used to go to the Museum of Art. M: Ive been there several times. Twice with children. W: Well, I have an idea. Next weekend, lets go to the Museum of Natural History. M: OK, thats really a very nice idea. Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. What does the man think of living in the suburbs? 14. What is the mans opinion of the city? 15. What do we know about the woman according to the conversation?14.

听力原文:W: Gosh! Have you seen this, Richard?

M: Seen what?

W: In the paper, it says there's a man going round pretending he's from the electricity board. He's been calling at people's home, saying he's come to cheek that all their appliances are safe. Then he gets around them to make him a cup of tea and while they are out of the room, he steals their money, handbag, whatever and makes off with it.

M: But you know Jane, it's partly their own fault. You should never let anyone like that in unless you are expecting them.

W: It's all very well to say that, but someone comes to the door and says electricity or gas, and you automatically think they are OK, especially if they flash a card to you.

M: Does this man have an ID then?

W: Yes, that's just it! It seems he used to work tot the electricity board at one time. According to the paper, the police are warning people, especially pensioners not to admit anyone unless they have an appointment. It's a bit sad. One old lady told them she'd just been to the post office to draw her pension when he called. She said he must have followed her home. He stole the whole lot.

M: But what does he look like? Surely they must have a description.

W: Oh, yes, they have. Let's see. In his thirties, tall, bushy dark hair, slight northern accent, sounds a bit like you actually.

What does the woman want the man to read in the newspaper?

A.An accident.

B.A man.

C.An old lady.

D.A theft.

W: Excited and nervous. You know I owe a lot to Professor Mercheno. He wrote a letter of recommendation for me and he bought me a set of practise tapes and a book which goes with them.
