听力原文: Did you know that cola started out not as a soft drink but as a cure for headache back in the late 1800's? John S. Pamberton, a druggist from Atlanta, had experimented for many months trying to find a cure for the common headache. He worked in his backyard, mixing and heating different combinations of oils and flavors until he found one that seems promising. Pamberton bottled the mixture and began selling it in drugstores as a concentrated syrup that the customer had to mix with water before drinking. Cola's transformation from a concentrated syrup to a carbonated soft drink came about quite by accident. One day, a customer came into a drugstore complaining of a headache and asked for a bottle of cola syrup. He wanted to take 'it right away. So he asked the clerk to mix the medicine while he waited. The clerk, instead of walking to the other end of the counter to get plain water, suggested mixing the syrup with soda water. The customer agreed, and after drinking it, remarked how good it tasted. The clerk continued offering the mixture and carbonated cola grew in popularity. Today carbonated cola is sold in most countries around the world. And although they no longer contain the ingredients to kill headaches, they are still very refreshing.
The talk is mainly about ______.
A.the function of cola
B.the invention of cola
C.the ingredients of cola

听力原文: No Englishman believes in working from book learning. He suspects all theories, philosophic or other. He suspects everything new, and dislikes it, unless he can be compelled by the force of circumstances to see that this new thing has advantages over the old. Race-experience is what he invariably depends upon, whenever he can, whether in India, in Egypt, or in Australia. His statesmen do not consult historical precedents in order to decide what to do: they first learn the facts as they are; then they depend on their own common sense, not at all upon their university learning or upon philosophical theories. And in the case of the English nation, it must be acknowledged that this instinctive method has been eminently successful
The judgment of the Englishman by all other European peoples is that he is the most suspicious, the most re- served, the most unreceptive, the most unfriendly, the coldest-hearted, and the most domineering of all western peoples. Ask a Frenchman, an Italian, A German, a Spaniard, even an American, what he thinks about English- men; and every one of them will tell you the very same thing, But you would find upon the other hand that nearly all nations would speak highly of certain other English qualifies…energy, courage, honor, justice. They would say that although no man is so difficult to make friends with, the friendship of an Englishman once gained is stronger and more true than any other,
Which of the following is NOT suggested in the passage?
A.Englishman seldom reads books.
B.Englishman is suspicious.
C.Englishman dislikes anything new.
D.Englishman depends on their common sense.

John S. Pemberton, a druggist from Atlanta had experimented for many months trying to find a cure for the common headache. He worked in his backyard mixing and heating different combination of oils and flavors until he found one which seemed promising. Pemberton bottled the mixture and began selling it in drugstores as a concentrated syrup that the customers had to mix with water before drinking. The clerk, instead of walking to the other end of the counter to get plain water, suggested mixing the syrup with soda water. The customer agreed. 听力原文: The limits of a person's intelligence are fixed at birth, but whether or not he reaches those limits will depend on his environment. It is easy to show that intelligence is, to some extent, something we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be in intelligence. Thus if we take two unrelated people at random from the population, it is likely that their degree of intelligence will be completely different. If on the other hand, we take two identical twins, they will very likely be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depend on birth.
Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments. We might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the work is boring and fixed. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this indicates that environments as well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each other, but who are not related at all, are likely to have similar degrees of intelligence.
In the development of one's intelligence, environment plays ______.
A.a less important role
B.an equally important role
C.an insignificant role
D.the least significant role

听力原文: On 17th of September 1988, teams representing the National Olympic Committee from countries around the world will march into a stadium in Seoul, capital of South Korea. A runner carrying a burning torch which symbolizes the link with the Olympic games in ancient Greece will mount the steps, light the Olympic flame which will burn throughout the games, and the Games of the twenty-fourth Olympic will begin.
The Olympic idea means friendship and cooperation among the youth of the world. The Olympic Movement proves that real peace can be achieved through sport. Probably the best-known symbol of the Olympic Movement is the five linked rings, which represent the five continents of the world. The Olympic flag itself is white and the rings are in five colors, blue, yellow, black, green and red. Any national flag contains at least one of these five colors.
The original Games began in ancient Greece in 776 B. C. These games were part of a festival held every four years in honour of the god, Zeus, at a place called Olympia. The festival included contests that tested the skills of soldiers. Some Olympic sports such as boxing and wrestling and many of the athletic events have a long history. The modern games, revived in AD 1896, owe a lot to one man, Baron Pierre de Coubertin. He suggested that the Olympic Games which were discontinued in AD 393, should be restored and he helped establish the structure of the modern Olympic Movement.
According to the passage, what does the burning torch symbolize?
A.The link with the games in ancient Greece.
B.The link with the god, Zeus.
C.The link with Baron Pierre de Goubertin.
D.The link with the five colors.
