听力原文: A new plan for getting children to and from school is being started by a local government in Eastern England. This could end the worries of man, parents fearful for their children's safety on the roads.
Until now the local government has only been prepared to provide bus services for children living more than three miles from their school, or sometimes less if special reasons existed. Now it has been decided that if a group of parents ask for help in organizing transport they will be prepared to go ahead, as long as the arrangement will not lose money and children taking part will be attending their nearest school.
The new plan is to be tried out this term for children living at Milton who attend Impington School. Now the government has agreed to offer a sum of money for a bus service from Milton to Impington and back, a plan which has the support of the school's headmaster.
Between 50 and 60 parents have said they would like their children to take part. Final calculations have still to be carried out, but a government official has said the cost to parents should be less than £20 a term.
They have been able to arrange the service at a low cost, because there is already an agreement with the bus com puny to take children who live further away to Impington. The same bus would now just make one more journey to pick up the Milton children. The official said they would get in touch with other groups of parents who in the past had asked if transport could be provided for their children, to see if they would tike to take part in the new plan.

Until now the County Council has only been prepared to provide bus service for children living more than three miles from their school, or sometimes less if special reasons existed. Now it has been decided that if a group of parents ask for help in organizing transport, they will be prepared to go ahead, provided that the arrangement will not lose money and that children taking part will be attending their nearest school.
The new plan is to be tried out this term for children living at Milton who attend Impington school. The children live just within the three-mile limit and the Council has said in the past it won't undertake to provide free transport to the school. But now they have agreed to organize a bus service from Milton to Impington and back.
Between 50 and 60 parents would like their children to take part and a Council official has said the cost to parents should be less than £ 6.50 a term.
They have been able to arrange the service at a low cost because there is already an agreement with the bus company for a bus to take children living further away to Impington, The same bus would now just make an' extra journey to pick up the. Milton children.
The official said they would connect with other groups of parents who had once asked if transport could be provided for their children, to see if they'd like to take part in the new plan.

Other reasons they take that first drink are to be rebellious (反抗的), for curiosity or "kicks" (刺激) or to escape an unpleasant environment. And young people drink and use drugs because alcohol (酒精) and drugs are at hand.
After first experimental use, young people continue to drink or use drugs because they believe these substances can relieve boredom, increase energy, decrease anxiety, solve problems, or help them socially. They may simply like the "high" they get in the early and middle stages of substance use. After continued use, they will drink or use drugs because they become physically and psychologically (心理地) addicted (上瘾的).
Now that we have admitted that we have to solve this problem. We must decide how to deal with this challenge. Winning this will take a great effort involving local, state, and national government. It will require the effort of schools, but it cannot be done by schools alone. It will take family and com munity involvement. Already a great amount of time, energy and expert knowledge has been directed toward dealing with it but the problem continues.

By now, you may shake your head, but wait, let ’s try to put the problem into p erspective Generally.it ’s safe for kids to use the Internet. The number of sites considered harmful is between 1% and 3%, which shows about 5 million other sites are interesting and educational. Besides, to stop children from using these services just because crimes are being committed online would be like telling them not to attend college because students may have accidents on campus.
What can parents do to protect their children from those harmful sites? The simplest solution is the use of programs which block offensive sites. Such programs are set to screen out certain words likely to appear on “unhealthy ” sites. But many sites inappropriate to young people are clever at using words with double meanings that may appear harmless. What&39;s more, not only do the programs fail to do the job satisfactorily, they also take away the decisive role of parents in children ’s education. A child who downloads bad information or pictures can only be corrected by positive family influence. No filtering program is necessary for a child who has learned to say “no” to sites he knows are inappropriate for him.
Today, when children are exposed to technology at a young age, parents often find themselves lagging behind in computer skills. Surprisingly, this may be the key to your involvement. What is better way to learn about the Internet than to do so alongside your children? They’ll most likely pick it up more quickly than you do, of course, but you ’ll have the chan see, and take pride in, your child at work. You may search for information that interests your child together with him and get to know the “friends ” he has online, just as you would get to know his other friends.
Thoughtful parents would combine supervision with communication, which is the best wav to take advantage of the Internet as a resource while protecting their children. Follow their examples and have fun with kids on the Net!
